Truly founded in January of 2015, the speech and debate team at McKinney Boyd is headed strong by our new coach Carl Scafuro, also known as Mr. S. His employment around the State of Texas truly qualifies him for his position as he continually strives to elevate his students to state level competitors. Carl Scafuro also earned the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance's high honor in 2009-2010 as Coach of the Year, highlighting the diverse role that he played in the lives of his students and pupils at his inner city school.  As the history of the debate team at McKinney Boyd has expressed a tradition of excellence in the past, the strive for self amelioration is abundant in the thriving community. Strong in the district tournament against the former state champion, the team swept the Prose and Poetry competition, and advanced a member to the finals in Extemp, among others. The team, now hungry for more competition, will be fearlessly heading strongly into the next season of rigorous debate and speech competitions. Although the team is goal motivated, the team spends time together in Speech Club, among all of the stress of High School, to relax, play games, and build comradery. Accredited with a tremendous individual progression rate, the debate team, under the guidance and support of Carl Scafuro, boasts a huge growth in the individuals present on the team.
